J.W. Call letter

Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of a single letter written by J.W. Call to his wife, Fanny Call, in February, 1865. J.W. Call was a Corporal from South Carolina, and fought for the Confederacy in the 3rd Battalion of South Carolina, also known as the Palmetto Battalion. This letter was sent from Brewton Station, in Southern Alabama, and discusses morale, the food eaten by the soldiers, ad well as a series of poems Call wrote to his wife.

Abstract Robert Walton Jr (1894-1987) was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 22, 1894, the son of Lucy Eleanor Wilson Walton and Robert Walton. He entered the United States Army at the age of 23 in 1917. He received his initial training at Camp Gordon (Atlanta), and was ultimately commissioned a Second Lieutenant on August 15, 1917 in the infantry of the 82nd "All American" Division.
