Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence, reports, memoranda, meeting agendas and minutes, preservation plans, publications, and related materials documenting the activities of the Georgia Heritage Trust from 1976 to 1984. The collection primarily reflects the tenure of Dr. Edward J. Cashin as chairman of the Trust and includes records concerning historic preservation initiatives, endangered natural and cultural resources, and the development of Georgia Heritage Day. Also included are historical and biographical materials relating to notable environmental and architectural landmarks throughout Georgia.

Biographical / Historical
The Georgia Heritage Trust was established in 1972 by an Executive Order from Governor Jimmy Carter to identify, acquire, and protect critically endangered natural and cultural sites. It provided millions in state funding to conserve coastal lands, wetlands, and important historical landmarks.
