This collection is comprised of transcribed letters originally written by Julien Cumming, as well as a speech he wrote. Other collection materials include later genealogical research conducted by descendants.

Biographical or Historical Information
Julien Cumming (1830-1864) was born on August 1, 1830, the son of Henry Hartford Cumming and Julian Ann Bryan Cumming. During the American Civil War, Julien Cumming fought on the side of the confederacy in the 48th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. He died on March 8, 1864 in Sandusky County, Ohio, and was buried in the Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
