This collection is comprised of the 19th- early 20th century estate papers of David Meyer. Collection materials include bills, lists of property, account receipts, deeds, correspondence, mortgages, slave documentation, and checks.

Biographical or Historical Information

David Meyer was born circa 1801-1805 in South Carolina, the son of David Meyer and Helen Miller. He married Ruth "Ruthy" Hankinson, and the couple had at least 6 children: Louisa Meyer (born 1831), Frances Meyer (born 1836), Betsy Meyer (born 1838), Christopher Columbus "Kit" Meyer (born 1840), Isabella Meyer (born 1842), Harrietta Meyer (born 1844).

Abstract

A Collection of financial, estate, and general personal materials documenting the estate and life of David Meyer. Also includees slave ownership documentation.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged into two series: 1) Estate papers and 2)Financial papers. While Series 1 is self-explanatory, financial papers primarily documents general receipts and bill of sales rather than the estate records. Estate papers are arranged in their original order at the item level and chronologically at the folder level.

Custodial History

Previously titled: Meyer, David. Retitled in 2017.

Several David Meyer Estate documents were found in our Miscellaneous Legal papers collection. They were promptly moved and compiled into the main David Meyer papers. Reprocessed in 2026.
