Boykin Wright papers
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of the personal papers of Boykin Wright. Collection materials include business, financial, and personal correspondence, financial records, legal records from Wright's work as a judge, as well as maps and newspaper clippings. The majority of the collection is comprised of Wright's correspondence with family members, particuarly during WWI.

Biographical or Historical Information
Boykin Wright (1852-1932) was born on May 20, 1852 in Newton County, Virginia. He attended the University of Georgia, and later opened a law office in Augusta, Georgia. He was nominated as a Supreme Court Justice, and was well connected both politically, and socially, and his home in Summerville was considered to be a center for Augusta social life.
Wright married Margaret Constance Cabell (1862-1942) on February 17, 1885 in Richmond Virginia. Cabell was the daughter of Robert Gamble Cabell and Margaret Sophia Caskie. The couple had four children, three of which lived to adulthood. The couple's first child, born around 1887, died in infancy. The couple went on to have three more children, all of whom lived into adulthood: Marguerite Cabell Wright Hillman (1889-1973), Boykin Cabell Wright (1891-1956), and Constance Wright Jackson (1902-1989).
Boykin Wright died in Augusta, Georgia on August 6, 1932.
Marguerite Cabell Wright Hillman (1889-1973) later married James Frazer Hillman, of the well-known Hillman family of Pittsburgh, in 1914. James F. Hillman was a Pittsburgh area coal operator, philansthopist, and conservationist, and was a captain in the 82nd Division, fighting in europe during WWI. The couple had 4 daughters: Constance Cabell Hillman, Marguerite W. Hillman, Audrey F. Hillman, and Sally F. Hillman. In 1970, Hillman donated her father's residence in Summerville to Augusta State University, which continues to serve as an administrative building under the name "Boykin Wright Hall."
Boykin Cabell Wright (1891-1956), like his father, Boykin Wright Sr., attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1911, and practiced law in Augusta, Georgia. Wright erved in both World Wars. in 1917, he entered 1st Officers Training Camp, was comissioned a captain, and was promoted to Major while overseas with the 82nd Division. During WWII, Wright served as Brigadier General, and Director of the International Division Army Service Forces, from 1943-1944. In 1926, Wright married Miriam Harriman on September 9, 1926, and the couple had two children, Alan H. Wright, and Boykin C. Wright Jr.
Constance Wright Jackson (1902-1989) was active in the Junior League of Augusta, the Church of the Good Shepherd, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She married Elbert Jackson, an artist from Augusta. The couple later moved to Montauk, Long Island, New York, and had two daughters, Constance Jackson Darrell, and Jackie Jackson.
