Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of Edward Cashin's research notes on the Augusta Chronicle. Cashin organized his notes into a chronological timeline form, where he recorded notes for various dates from 1787-1984. The collection also includes some notes on the Georgia State Gazette, Gazette of the State, and the Independent Register. Biographical or Historical Information
Edward J. Cashin (1927-2007) was a historian who focused his research and writing on colonial and revolutionary era Georgia. He was born in Augusta, GA on July 22, 1927, the son of Margaret O'Leary and Edward Cashin. He earned his B.A. from Marist College in 1952, and received his M.A in History from Fordham University in 1956. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Histoy in 1962.
Cashin taught at Marist College, and at Augusta College. In 1969, he married Mary Ann Klug, and they had two children: Edward Lawrence and Milette.
In addition to teaching, Cashin published a number of books, many of which focused on the history of Augusta, GA. His published works are as follows:
