This collection is comprised of postcards that depict multiple Augusta landmarks and buildings. Primarily contains streets, hotels, government buildings, churches, historic houses, and monuments in the Augusta area. Many postcards feature handwritten letters on their backsides from Augusta travellers and natives alike.

Abstract

A collection of Augusta postcards depicting government buildings, historic houses, streets, and several monuments and landmarks.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection is an artifical collection comprised of materials found in special collections and donated by the State Library of Florida and was transferred to special collections from the Augusta Museum of History. Both of the original accessions 2018.10 and 2019.50 were originally separate collections that were combined to increase search and user discoverability.

Appraisal

This collection was originally created as a combined version of two legacy collections that had minimal searchability or accessbility. The two accessions, 2018.10 (MSS 408) and 2019.50 were processed into the larger MSS 422 collection. The original MSS 408 collection has been decomissioned and consolidated into MSS 422. The original provenance of the individual postcards have been retained, and are labeled as such.
