This ledger was part of a transfer from the Augusta Museum of History to the Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society ca. 1970. This bound ledger contains records of petitions from slaveholders to the Confederate States of America government for slaves either contracted or comandeered for the war effort. Petitions cover a range of Southern states. The majority of claims appear to be from Alabama, South Carolina and Virginia.
