This collection is comprised of materials related to the genealogy research William H. Dumont conducted from 1960-1969, on many Georgia families. The materials include correspondence to and from Dumont regarding his genealogy research, photocopies of primary sources he used in his research, research notes, and handwritten family trees he created through his research.

Biographical or Historical Information

William Henry Dumont (1897-1970), was born on October 18, 1897, the son of William Alexander Dumont and Martha Jane Hay. He married Louise Marks. Dumont was a certified genealogist and editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly at the time of his death. Dumont published many works on genealogy and other topics. His books include: Index of Revolutionary War pension applications; Colonial Georgia genealogical data, 1748-1783; Commercial fishing gear of the United States; Land owners: St. Geroge's Parsih Georgia; Some early residents, Burke County, Georgia, 1786-1819; Shucking Oysters: one of New Jersey's growing industries; A short census of Virginia, 1779; and Burke County, Georgia. Though Dumont was a prolific genealogy researcher, he also had a career in government organizations related to fisheries, and lived and worked in Washington D.C. and New Jersey before settling in Augusta, GA.

William Henry Dumont (1897-1970),  was a certified genealogist and editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, and researched family geneaolgy focused in Georgia and the Carolinas.
