Biographical / Historical
Sarah Adams MacWhorter Sturges (1864–1959) was an Augusta, Georgia native who bridged prominent Southern ancestry with Northeast high society. Born during the Civil War into a family with deep Revolutionary War roots, she married wealthy New Yorker Henry Cady Sturges in 1883 and relocated to Connecticut and New York City. Throughout her 95-year life, she maintained strong ties to her hometown, frequently returning to visit family in Augusta's historic Summerville neighborhood.
