Biographical / Historical
Thomas L. Crews, MD, grew up in Macon, Georgia and received his undergraduate degree from Mercer University in 1953. In 1954 while in medical school, he married JoAnn Hammond. He graduated and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1957. After completing his internship at the Macon Hospital (1957-1958), Crews served in the US Army in Korea from 1958 to 1960.
Crews practiced Family Medicine in Newton, Georgia and at the Newton General Hospital from 1960-1966. He then did a three-year residency (1966-1969) in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Augusta University Medical Center, which was then known as the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital. After this residency, Crews completed a Cardiology Fellowship at St. George’s Hospital in London, England (1969-1970).
Crews established a private practice specializing in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Newton General Hospital in Covington, Georgia in 1970. He also an attending physician at the Cardiac Clinic at Emory University’s School of Medicine from 1970-1998. Crews retired in 1999 after 35 years of practicing medicine.
