Biographical or Historical Information
Cazenove Lamar Miller Helm (1892-1992) was born on March 14, 1892, the daughter of Frank Harvey Miller, Jr. and Maria Cumming Duvall. She was the great, great grandaughter of Thomas Cumming, the first "intendant," or mayor, of Augusta.
Cazenove was an Army nurse in France during WWI, after training at Boston Children's Hospital. During the war, she worked in Bourdeaux, Paris, and in tent hospitals n the front lines. Following the war, Helm toured Europe before returning to the U.S., during which time she met the Prince of Wales, who would later become Edward VIII.
She married Leslie Robert Dundas Helm, a retired British Royal Navy Commander, and they settled in Augusta, where Cazenove had grown up. Following her return to Augusta, she was active in community organizations, including the First Presbyterian Church, and the National Society of Colonial Dames.
