Biographical or Historical Information

These materials were donated to Reese Library Special Collections in 2005 by Mr. and Mrs. Rowland.  Born January 6, 1930, Arthur Ray Rowland was integral to the development of the library at Augusta State University, serving as Librarian and Professor of Library Science from July 1961 to June 30, 1991.  During this time, he oversaw the development of the library collection with the campaign “Books of Knowledge for a Four Year College”.  He also guided the library through the construction of the Reese Library finished in 1977.  Other career highlights include; Consultant on Library Management to the government of Indonesia 1979, recipient of the Georgia Library Association Nix-Jones Award for Distinguished Service 1981, recipient  the Town and Gown Award Augusta College Alumni Association 1985 and founder and first editor of the Richmond County History journal (now Augusta Richmond County History).  For a bibliography of his published works and a list of civic commitments, consult Who’s Who in America 46th edition page 2824.
