Scope and Contents
First manuscript is The Korea I Liked written by Frances Manning Achurch. Gives a first hand account of her life while stationed with her husband in Korea. Second manuscript is entitled Escape From Korea written by William C. Achurch. This is Achurch’s account of the withdrawl of the U.S. Coast Guard from Korea. The newspaper articles are from papers in Augusta and possibly Barnwell, South Carolina.

These manuscripts were donated to Special Collections by Mrs. Henry McWhorter (Frances Manning Achurch) William Achurch died in 1986 and his wife remarried in 1994 to Henry L. McWhorter. Mrs. McWhorter was living in Evans, Georgia in 2006. More details on Achurch’s role in the formation of the Korean navy can be found at http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/Korean_War.html
