Philip Edward Pearce (1855–1945) was an Augusta, Georgia, businessman, cartographic publisher, and investor who was active in regional real estate and transit development during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Married to Sarah Eugenie Hack (1856–1920) in 1882, Pearce was connected to the prominent local Hack family and resided for years in Augusta's Woodlawn neighborhood. Professionally, he partnered with M.B. Mathewson to publish a detailed municipal map of Augusta, and he later managed local real estate ventures out of an office on 15th Street. Pearce also ventured into regional transit networks, serving as an original corporate incorporator for the Fairmont and Augusta Railroad Company, which was chartered to develop rail lines connecting to the city. Following his wife's death, Pearce eventually relocated to western North Carolina, passing away in Asheville in 1945.

Not much is currently known about J.J. Pearce, other than his relationship to Philip Pearce and his financial records within this collection.

Henry C. Roney (1845–1921) was born in Warren County, Georgia, and served in Company H of the Twenty-second Georgia Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War, where he was wounded in 1864. After the war, he resumed his education and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1870. He was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1871 and began practicing law in Thomson, Georgia. Roney later served in the Georgia legislature (1879–1881) before being elected judge of the Superior Court of the Augusta Circuit in 1882. He relocated to Augusta in 1883 and served three consecutive terms on the bench (1883–1895). Following his judicial service, he returned to private practice in Augusta and became one of the city’s leading attorneys, active in professional, political, and religious life.

The Pearce Family was a prominent Augusta family. However, no substantial current information exists to explain thier role, significance, or relationship with Roney.
