Biographical or Historical Information

The material was probably compiled by Edmund Allen Pendleton Jr. from material belonging to his father Edmund Allen Pendleton Sr.  Edmund Allen (E Allen) Sr. died on May 28, 1952 and was buried in the Westover cemetery.  He was a banker by profession having been an officer of the National Exchange Bank and also served as Chairman of the Augusta Civil Service Commission for a short period, notably during the 1916 fire.  E. Allen served on the committee which authored a history of St. John’s Methodist Church in its sesquicentennial year and was a charter member of the Augusta Elks. Pendleton Jr. appears to have been the oldest child of Pendleton Sr. and his wife, Alberta.  There was also a daughter, Bertha and a son Walker N.  Pendleton later worked for the Augusta Arsenal and received publicity for developing and implementing a new procurement system for this facility.  There is some suggestion that he, or possibly a descendent, had a career as a music educator and member of the Augusta Symphony. Listed as resident in the 1996 Augusta City directory, he was listed deceased in a Debtor’s and Creditor’s Notice Augusta Chronicle, January 31, 1997.
