Lester Moody was a prominent Augusta, Georgia civic and business leader who served for many years as executive secretary of the Augusta Chamber of Commerce. Widely credited with shaping the economic development of the Augusta region in the mid-twentieth century, Moody played a central role in promoting industrial growth, infrastructure expansion, and regional cooperation across the Central Savannah River Area.

During his tenure, he advocated for major public works projects—including bridge construction and improvements to the Savannah River as a commercial waterway—and worked to position Augusta as a competitive economic center in the Southeast. Even after his retirement in 1964, Moody remained active in civic affairs and continued to advise on regional development initiatives.

Recognized for his vision, leadership, and commitment to community advancement, Moody received numerous honors, including a U.S. Army Decoration for Outstanding Civilian Service and the naming of local infrastructure in his honor. His legacy endures through the Lester S. Moody Award of Excellence, established by the Chamber to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the Augusta community.
