Biographical or Historical Information
Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers. These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments and non-competitive events, incorporating Science Olympiad into classroom curriculum and attending teacher training institutes. Teams which are successful at the state level progress to the national level. Science Olympiad celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Science Olympiad National Tournament at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia, on May 15-16, 2009. One hundred and twenty of the nation's most competitive Science Olympiad 15-member teams will compete in 46 events spanning the sciences, from chemistry, biology and physics to engineering, robotics and astronomy.
