Biographical or Historical Information

This material was transferred to Reese Library Special Collections in the spring of 2008, by Mr. Eric G. Roberts of Eastpoint Florida.  Mr. Roberts is the grandson of Cecil Etheridge Jackson a friend and fellow hunting enthusiast of Edison Marshall.  The letter written by Marshall in this collection was written to Mr. Roberts’ mother Betty Jackson.

Folder1: Letter from Edison Marshall to Betty Jackson dated March 10 1937 Gives Betty a message; she is to pass it to her father.  Describes the audience he has drawn while typing this letter to her and explains the complicated route the letter will take to be delivered to her.  Gives details of the elephant that is his mount for the tiger hunt and relates the history of the man-eating tiger, “Kala Bahg,” he is stalking. Folder 2:  Correspondence from Eric Roberts Gives the history of Cecil Etheridge Jackson’s friendship with Marshall and the provenance of the letter and books.  Relates the fate of the man-eating tiger discussed in the letter. The tiger became a rug that Marshall gave to the Jackson family.  Mrs. Roberts gave the rug away in the late 1960s Folder 3: Two Newspaper clippings These are an obituary and an editorial reporting on Marshall’s death List of books with inscriptions (stored in the Pfadenhauer bookcase) Sam Campbell, Gentleman.  New York: H.
