Biographical or Historical Information
Samuel Vance Fulkerson (1822-1862) was born in Virginia, the son of Abram Fulkerson and Margaret Laughlin Vance. He practiced law in Virginia, before serving in the United States Army during the Mexican War (1847-1848). Returning from the war, he continued to practice law, and was eledted judge of the thirteenth judicial district. He served in the army again during the Civil War, as Colonel of the 37th Virginia Infantry Regiment, and was killed in the Battle of Gaines's Mill on June 26, 1862.

Method of Acquisition
This collection was donated to the Augusta Museum of History by J.H. Lowrey in May of 1947. The materials were deaccessioned by the museum and transferred to the Augusta Richmond County Historical Society in October of 1977. ARCHS.2019.02
