Biographical / Historical
Elmer Inglesby Ransom (1892–1942) was a civil engineer and short-story writer associated with Augusta, Georgia. Educated at the University of Georgia, he later returned to Augusta where he worked professionally as a civil engineer and participated in the city’s civic and cultural life. Alongside his engineering career, Ransom wrote short fiction—often centered on outdoor and adventure themes—that appeared in national magazines including The Saturday Evening Post and Liberty. His stories were later collected in The Last Trumpeters and Other Stories (1941), published by the University of Georgia Press. Ransom remained a resident of Augusta for much of his professional life and was part of the city’s early twentieth-century professional and literary community.
