Biographical / Historical
The Augusta Volunteer Fire Department was formed as early as the late 18th century to combat the lack of traditional fire department infastructure in the city. While there is a general lack of concrete information about the early period of the fire department, it is generally known that the department became a paid, structured operation during the late 19th century that aided in disasters such as the Augusta Fire of 1916.
