Biographical or Historical Information
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Eugenia Toole Glover is considered instrumental in founding the music program of Augusta University. Starting with the Junior College of Augusta in 1957, Mrs. Glover taught piano and organ at Augusta College from 1958 to 1963. She earned a Master of Music in Organ and Music Literature from the Eastman School of Music with additional post-graduate work at Yale, Julliard and the Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music. She broke the “stained glass ceiling’ for American women organists when she was appointed organist for the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York. Mrs. Glover is credited with helping to found the New Harmony Festival of Music in Indiana, Upon her return to Augusta in 1989 she continued her work with roles in the Augusta Symphony Guild, the Augusta Opera Guild, the American Guild of Organists, Augusta Chapter the Augusta Collegium Musicum, and the music director of St. Augustine’s Church.
