W.H. Fluker papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of papers of W.H. Fluker from 1906-1926. The papers mainly contain correspondence, both incoming to Fluker and typed carbons of his replies, pertaining to his involvement with the Columbia Mining Company (McDuffie County, Ga.). Most of the correspondence is from M.L. Bickart of Baltimore (Md.). The letters discuss gold and other mineral mining activities of the Company, accounts and budgets, improvements, surveys, housing for workers, and the effect of World War I on mining operations.

Biographical or Historical Information
William Henry Fluker (1870- death unknown) was born in 1870, the son of William Thomas Flucker and Emily Murden Fluker. His father was a Civil War veteran who ran a gun shop in Washington, Ga. following the war. Fluker attended the Georgia School of Technology, where he earned a degree in engineering. He worked in the local gold mining industry, first managing mines for Jane Septima Smith and working for the Hamilton Mine in McDuffie County, GA, until he organized the Columbia Mining Company in 1899, and acted as its general manager.
Fluker married Ruth Emerson Smith on February 7, 1895, and the couple had 6 children: Mary Emerson Fluker (1896-1980), William Fluker (b. 1896), Loese Fluker (b. 1901), Robert Fluker (b. 1905), Septina Fluker (b. 1910).
A noted geologist, Fluker was a lecturer on the speaker's circuit at many conventions and gatherings in the field.
