Biographical / Historical
The Augusta Savings Bank was incorporated in 1879 by Alfred Baker, the bank’s president. The bank only had two other presidents after Baker: William B. Young and Percy E. May, who helped facilitate the merging between the Augusta Savings Bank and the National Exchange Bank of Augusta in December of 1922. The National Exchange Bank of Augusta was eventually acquired by Thomas K. Glenn and became a part of the Georgia Trust Company, which then merged in 1985 with the Sun Banks of Florida to become SunTrust Banks, and is now known as Truist Bank.
