Biographical / Historical
Presumably, this journal was written by the John W. Clarke who served in the American Civil War and received the medal of honor for his service.
John Wesley Clark (October 25, 1830 – August 4, 1898) was a Union Army officer who served during the American Civil War. Born in Vermont, he was appointed regimental quartermaster of the 6th Vermont Volunteer Infantry in 1861 and later promoted to captain. Clark received the Medal of Honor for gallantry in action near Warrenton, Virginia, on July 28, 1863; the award was issued in 1892. After resigning from military service in 1864, he lived in Vermont until his death and was buried in Montpelier.
