This collection is comprised of 5 blank postcards featuring images of YWCA facilities in Augusta Ga, before the construction of the main YMCA facility on Broad Street in 1923. The YMCA postcards depict the original boarding house, athletic building, swimming pool, and several interior and exterior shots. Collection also contains 1 blank postcard picturing the "new city hospitals," also known as the original University Hospital for the Medical College of Georgia.

Biographical / Historical

The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta has served the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) since its founding in 1858, establishing a deeply rooted legacy focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. For nearly a century, one of the organization's most defining physical landmarks was its downtown Augusta facility, constructed in 1923 by the local architectural firm Scroggs & Ewing. This historic multi-story building featured extensive recreation spaces, an indoor gymnasium, and a basement lap pool, operating for decades as a vital community hub in Richmond County.

This material was donated to the Augusta Richmond County Historical Society by Marianne McKinne Ellis Bradley on 08/24/2017. Found postcards amongst materials she inherited from these family members.
