This collection is comprised of materials documenting the history of the Summerville Neighborhood Association and their historic preservation work. Collection materials include: correspondence, membership records, newspaper clippings, and promotional materials for the Designer Showcase and Tour of Homes events put on by the Association.

Biographical or Historical Information

Summerville wasoriginally built in the 1780s, incorporated as a village in 1861, and annexed to the city of Augusta in 1912. The Summerville Neighborhood Association was founded in 1976 by a group of Summerville residents concerned about preserving the historic area. The group was involved in drafting new preservation ordinances with the city of Augusta, which were voted into law in 1994. The organization continues to be active today, and is known for there fall Tour of Homes.
