Biographical / Historical
Not much is currently known on James Gardener and his businesses in the Augusta area.
Petersburg, Georgia, was a prominent frontier boomtown in the late 1700s and early 1800s, but it is now a ghost town. Established in 1786 at the confluence of the Broad and Savannah rivers in Elbert County, it faded by the 1830s and was ultimately submerged in the early 1950s by the creation of Clarks Hill Lake (now J. Strom Thurmond Lake).
