Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of autographs and autographed photograph prints containing signatures of figures such as presidents, first ladies, justices, and other government officials. Signatures include those of: Edith Wilson, Charles E. Hughes, William Taft, Robert Taft, Herbert Hoover, Warren G. Harding, and Herman Talmadge. Autographed photograph prints include signatures from Joseph Rucker Lamar and William Taft, with personal inscriptions.

Custodial History

Following the transfer to the Historical Society from the Augusta Museum of History, this material was kept in the legacy vertical files until it was removed an accessioned as a single collection in April, 2019.

Originally titled "Anonymous autograph collection," and renamed to expand collection scope.

Method of Acquisition

ARCHS 2019.46:This material was transferred to the Augusta Richmond County Historial Society from the Augusta Museum of History.

ARCHS 1983.05.09: Donated by Heard Robertson in 1983.

ARCHS 1983.05.11: This material was transferred to the Augusta Richmond County Historial Society from the Augusta Museum of History.

Appraisal

This is an artifical collection, comprised of several individual accessions compiled thematically into a single location. While the initial autographs were originally processed together, autographed photographs of Lamar and Taft were added to enhance access and searchability. All original accession numbers and documentation have been preserved.
