These letters were donated to the Richmond County Historical Society on May, 16, 1974 by Mr. and Mrs. Heard Robertson of Augusta, Georgia.
James Conquest Cross (J.C.C.) Black Jr.(July 15, 1873 - September 21, 1930) was elected as the United States Congressman for Georgia's 10th District in 1892 after a heavily contested election by his opponent the Populist Thomas E. Watson. After his career as a congressman, Black was a State Court Judge of Richmond County, Georgia from 1916 to 1930. The two letters in this collection are personal letters. One is dated November 9, 1892 from the Georgia historian Charles Colcock Jones Jr., congratulation Black on his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. The other, dated November 5, 1926 is from U.S. President and Supreme Court Justice William Howard Taft.
