Biographical or Historical Information
John Milledge (1757-1818) was an American politician and fought in the American Revolution before serving as a Representative, a Senator, and as the 26th Governor of Georgia. He was the founder of Athens, Ga, and the University of Georgia.
Thomas Flournoy (1775-1857) was born in North Carolina, and practiced law in Augusta, Ga. In 1804, he was involved in a duel with John Carter Walton, the nephew of George Walton, in which he shot and kille John Carter Walton. In 1812, Flournoy was commissioned as a brigadier general in the United States Army. In 1820, Flournoy was appointed United States commissioner to the Creek Indians. He retired from service in 1836, and died in North Carolina in 1857.
