John L. Barnes (1914–1989) was a columnist and City Editor of the Augusta Herald. His column, “Our Town,” chronicled the political, social, racial, business, and cultural life of the Augusta, Georgia area from 1958 until his death in 1989.

Margaret Twiggs (d. April 23, 1995) was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia, and a prominent political reporter and columnist for The Augusta Chronicle. A graduate of the former Junior College of Augusta and the University of Georgia, she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and served with the American Red Cross Club Mobile Group in the European Theater during World War II. Twiggs first served as a society editor at the Chronicle before moving into political journalism. As a reporter, Twiggs was known for her tough, hard-nosed interviewing practices and dedication to Augusta and the wider Richmond County. During her career, Twiggs interviewed many figures such as Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and the Duke of Windsor. Twiggs was active in many civic, cultural, and historical organizations, including St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Gateway Garden Club, and the Augusta Players. A charter member of the Richmond County Historical Society, she served two terms as acting president and several years as vice president. She also served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s and held memberships in the Augusta Country Club and the Huguenot Society of South Carolina. Politically engaged, she was past president of the Augusta League of Women Voters, chaired the Augusta Town Committee, helped found the Spinster’s Club, and founded the Georgia Foundation of Republican Women in 1957. She later served as state vice chair of the Georgia Republican Party and sat on its State Executive Committee. Twiggs received numerous honors, including the Louis C. Harris Award of the West Augusta Rotary Club—the first woman to receive it—along with awards from the United Press, the Georgia Press Association, and a citation from the Georgia Historical Commission. Retiring in 1984, Twiggs continued her column, “Public Affairs,” until her death in 1995.

David Westin is a sports historian and sportswriter for the Augusta Chronicle. Westin is most known for his extensive 40+ year coverage of the Augusta National Golf Tournament in the Chronicle.
