By His Excellency John Milledge Governor and Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of this State, and of the Militia thereof. To all to whom these Presents shall come, GREETING: KNOW YE, That in pursuance of the several acts passed by the General Assembly, to make distribution of the lands obtained from the Creek Nation of Indians by the United States Commisioners, in a treaty entered into at or near Fort Wilkinson, on the sixteenth day of June, eighteen hundred and two; and by virtue of the powers in me vested; I have given and granted, and by these presents, in the name and behalf of the said state, DO give and grant unto Archibald Welch of the county of Burke, his heirs and assigns forever; all that tract, lot or parcel of land, containing two hundred two and an half actes, situate, lying and being in the Fourth district Wilkinson County, in the said Sate, and butting and bounding North East by lot No 287 North West by lot No 265 South West by Lot no 261 and South East by lot No 263 which said tract or lot of land is known and distinguished in the plan of the said district by the number two hundred + sixty four having such shape, form and marks, as appear by a plat of the same hereunto annxed; together with all and sigular the rights, member and appurtenances thereof, whatsoever, to the said tract, lot or parcel of land, belonging, or in any wise appertaining; and also all the estate, right, title, interest, claim and demmand of the State aforesaid, of, in, to or o[??] of the same: TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said tract, lot or parcel of land, and all and singular the premises aforesaid, with their, and every of their rights, members and appertenances, unto the said Archibald Welch his heirs and assigns, to his and their own proper use and behoof forever fee simple. GIVEN under my hand, and the Great Seal of the said State, this Seventh day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and 4 and in the thirty first year of American Independence. Grant to Archibald Welch for 202 1/2 Acres Londs dated 7th Aug 1806 Georgia Secretary's Office Registered in Book 4th Wilkinson fo 256th 7th Aug 1806 Hor Marbury Secy Transcriber's note: the date on this is likely 1806 as that is the 31st year of independence and what was on the envelope from the Secretary of State's office. The text however looks like a 4 in the body. Milledge was governor Nov 1802-Nov 1806 so either date is possible.
