Indenture of Reuben Coleman to George Bryan on tract of Effingham County GA land and release, 6 May 1785
Scope and Contents
Text: This indenture made this sixth day of May in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five between George Bryan of the one part and Reuben Coleman of the other part both of the state of Georgia witnesseth. That the said George Bryan for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings to him in hand paid at or before the sealing + delivery of these presents the reicpt of which he doth hereby acknowleddge hath bargained sold al??n'd infest'd + confirm unto the said Reuben Coleman his heirs or assigns a certain tract of land in Effingham county in the state aforesaid lying on Indian Line between Scull's Creek +Lyke's Bluff containg two hundred acres more or less bounded as followith to wit South easterly b land belonging to Charlson Muzes Borth easterly by Ogeechee River and on all other sides by vacant land to have and to hold the said tract of land and every singular tahe appertinances thereof to his or their proper use (?+ likes?) forever and the said George Bryan + his heirs do further covenant and agree with the said Rueben Coleman and his heirs that they will at all times make any further titles that the said Rueben Coleman or his heirs shall lawfully require for the better securing the said land and that they will forever defend + warrant good and lawful titles in fee simple in the said land to the dai Reubin Coleman his + his heirs forever aganst the claim or demand of any person whatsoever. In witness whereof the parties above bound have herunto set their hand + seal the day above written. Signed Sealed + acknowledged (signatures follow Geroge Bryan and witness J.P Freeman.) page 2 Received the date within written full stisfaction for the within tract of land have given posses on the premises to be (illegible 2 wds) on when the within mentioned Rueben Coleman his heirs or assigns shall see cause.
